When we started breeding back in 2008, all the puppies were born and raised fully in our house.  Although I love nothing more than having puppies running around underfoot, I needed to make some improvements for the sake of convenience. This time around I wanted a place where I could let my puppies be puppies safely. The puppies are born inside my home and kept in my bedroom for the first 2 to 3 weeks to allow me to watch over them more closely. Once the puppies start to need more room, they are moved to their reserved space as seen in the pictures. At night the puppies sleep in my room and move out to my office when it is time to work.

 

This area started off with a 14'x32' Amish Shed and we completely renovated it to be the perfect space for our dogs. There are two 12'x7 sections for the puppies to roam and explore. They are separated by a half wall, which allows them to experience all the sounds of a busy work area. This gives me plenty of space to raise puppies while also giving mom a little space to get away to some peace at times. I use the remaining area as my office, which is 14’x20’. When they aren’t raising puppies, the girls spend their time within this area. I work from home, so I spend my days in this "Diva Den" with them each day. There are two doggy doors that lead to two fenced-in areas for the dogs to go outside whenever they please. One side is 25’x30’ and the other is 20’x25’. Although the puppies aren't housebroken per se, they will be well on their way to keeping their area clean by using the doggy door to go potty outside. It also gives them access to a nice play area. To further ensure the safety and well-being of our dogs, we have a security monitor system that allows me to check in when I'm not able to be with the girls.
